Rapid Crushing

Rapid wins contract to crush fill materials for Gorgon LNG works on Barrow Island

In August 2009 Rapid Crushing was awarded a contract to crush and screen approximately 600,000 tonne of selective fill materials associated with the Site Development & Wapet Landing for the Gorgon Barrow Island LNG Project.  Crushing is due3 to commence in late November 2009 with access to site on 1st November 2009.

Given that Barrow Island is an A Class Nature Reserve, the works are governed by strict quarantine and environmental constraints.  In particular, every item of plant and equipment, spares and consumables needs to undergo strict cleaning and preparation procedures prior to arrival on site to prevent the introduction of any species of plant, animal or micro-organism not occuring naturally on BWI.

The "zero tolerance" compliance extends to all goods and people and their accompanying luggage and all shall be free from all discernable evidence of soil, plants, plant material, seeds, invertibrates and vertebrates.  Vessels sall also be free of secondary fouling and marine pests.

The lead time for preperation of these works is between 8-10 weeks to prepare the gear for site including complete shrink wrapping!! Yes, everything including crushers and front end loaders has to be wrapped.
